Blizzard Replaces Hearthstone’s Classic Mode With “Twist” — Same Thing, But Not Static

Published:

Bye, Classic! Hello, Twist?

Blizzard has announced a new mode called “Twist” for Hearthstone, which will replace the Classic Mode and feature regularly rotating seasons with different rule variations and curated card pools. A beta will begin with Patch 26.6 later this month, starting at Bronze 10 and lasting until July 1. Besides shifting meta, the card game‘s players can earn ranked rewards too from the Twist ladder (similar to Standard or Wild modes). The official leaderboards will also switch from Classic to Twist once the beta kicks off.

As for the format for the June and July beta seasons, it’s called “New Age” and includes the Core Set and all sets from Ashes of Outland onwards. During the beta, a special rules variant will be in place, prohibiting the use of neutral cards. As new sets are released, they will be added to the New Age format periodically.

In celebration of the beta for Twist, a preview event will take place on June 22 and June 23 over on Twitch through participating streamers. Drops will be enabled during the event, allowing viewers to earn up to nine free packs for watching Hearthstone. Each hour of watching corresponds to a specific pack group, representing different Years of Hearthstone.

Note: Activision Blizzard has been sued by California’s Civil Rights Department, alleging violations of California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act and Equal Pay Act. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about the alleged violations within his company. These allegations have all been denied by Activision Blizzard and the company points to additional diversity and inclusion training as past examples of taking the accusations seriously at the time they were made.
