Crystal of Atlan, an upcoming anime-style action MMO with magipunk flair, is set to launch on May 28. The game is arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS. While multi-platform, it’s obvious that the game was designed first and foremost with mobile in mind. Still, a native PC client is a sign that the developer takes non-mobile audiences seriously.
The game promises flashy combat and combo-heavy gameplay. With over 6 million pre-registrations already logged, developer Nuverse is betting on a strong debut for its latest cross-platform title.
Crystal of Atlan launches with 11 playable classes, including a newly introduced Fighter. It also features a tie-in with esports org Team Liquid, a move clearly aimed at drawing in competitive and streamer-oriented audiences. But there’s a major shift behind the scenes: Nuverse, the publishing arm of ByteDance (best known as the parent company of TikTok), is stepping away from U.S. operations for the game.
Nuverse says it’s handing U.S. publishing duties over to Skystone, effective June 15. The reason wasn’t spelled out, but the likely backdrop is the political turbulence surrounding Chinese tech firms, especially after TikTok’s brush with a ban earlier this year. That same regulatory pressure appears to have pushed another Nuverse-published game, Marvel Snap, into Skystone’s hands as well.
Launch details:
- Global launch date set for May 28 on PC, PS5, Android, and iOS
- Over 6 million players pre-registered
- Includes 11 classes at launch, with a new Fighter class debuting
- Features a collaboration with Team Liquid
- U.S. publishing shifts to Skystone on June 15
Skystone, co-founded by industry veteran David Brevik (of Diablo fame), also took over Marvel Snap following similar concerns. With Skystone now at the helm for Crystal of Atlan in the U.S., the game’s future appears to be in experienced hands despite the geopolitical shuffle in the background.
