Funcom has announced that Dune: Awakening, its open-world multiplayer survival game set on Arrakis, will launch on May 20, 2025. A new video, Exploring Arrakis – Secrets of the Desert, showcases the planet’s vast, ever-changing landscapes and survival mechanics inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune universe and Legendary Entertainment’s films.
Dune Awakening bills itself as an MMO, which is surprising as most survival games like Rust and Conan Exiles do not. The game is not free to play. It will cost $49.99 at launch.
Dune Awakening Key Features
- Dynamic Deep Desert: The end-game area features Coriolis storms that reshape the terrain, uncovering new resources and burying old landmarks. Players can scout the altered landscape after storms and sell maps of updated zones to others via the in-game Exchange.
- Exploration Tools:
- Personal Scanner: Reveals nearby resources.
- Survey Probes: Deployed from high points to map large areas, marking points of interest like shipwrecks and ecology labs.
- Environmental Diversity: Arrakis includes varied biomes beyond dunes, such as rocky plateaus and hidden caves.
Pre-Launch Preparation
Players can download the Character Creator & Benchmark Mode on Steam now to customize their character and optimize performance ahead of launch. Those who participate will receive the exclusive Frameblade Knife skin.
Upcoming Details
A future video will delve into the game’s sandbox combat system, detailing how players engage in battles across the shifting sands.
