2024 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Final Fantasy XIV with a new overarching storyline set to begin with the Dawntrail expansion’s release later this summer. That’s not the only big thing that Square Enix has planned for the long-running fantasy MMORPG as it will also be making its way to Xbox Series X|S sometime this year.
FFXIV’s open beta launch on the Microsoft gaming console was confirmed when someone jumped the gun on the announcement and inadvertently posted it for all the interwebs to see.
“It’s been a long old journey, but we’re thrilled to finally be able to say critically acclaimed online RPG Final Fantasy XIV is officially available on Xbox Series X|S,” read the now-deleted post. The premature announcement also revealed that all progress during the open beta will carry over to full release.
Microsoft corroborated the post shortly after its retraction with this statement: “We incorrectly posted news this morning regarding the Final Fantasy XIV Online open beta. We’ll follow-up with the correct date when available. We apologize for any confusion.”
In any case, the open beta is expected sometime within the next four months with the Xbox launch set for spring. We’ll keep you posted as soon as the real announcement comes out.
