HoYoverse has announced Genshin Impact Version 5.5, Day of the Flame’s Return, launching on March 26. The update introduces a new region in Natlan, the Great Volcano of Tollan, alongside playable characters Varesa and Iansan, a new Saurian companion, and fresh exploration mechanics.
New Area: Great Volcano of Tollan
- Players will explore the volcanic depths of Tollan, uncovering the secrets of the slumbering Sacred City built by the Dragonborn.
- A new tribe, the Collective of Plenty, resides near the volcano, known for their devotion to fitness and harvests nurtured by volcanic soil.
- Tatankasaurus Transformation: Players can temporarily transform into this Saurian to smash through Pulverite rocks, dash across water, and navigate liquid Phlogiston during volcanic eruptions.
New Playable Characters
- Varesa (5-Star Electro Catalyst):
- Utilizes Plunging Attacks to enter a Fiery Passion state, boosting Electro DMG and enabling a low-cost Elemental Burst.
- Her Elemental Skill allows swift Plunging Attacks via follow-up Normal Attacks.
- Passive talent restores Phlogiston after consuming food.
- Iansan (4-Star Electro Polearm):
- Provides team-wide ATK buffs and healing. Her Elemental Burst boosts on-field character ATK even when off-field.
- ATK buff scales with teammate movement distance.
- Triggers healing via Warming Up effect when teammates activate Nightsoul Bursts.
Event Wishes and Reruns

- Phase 2: Xilonen and Venti reruns.
New Events
- Bloomflower Trials: Team up with Natlan allies like Mavuika and Ifa to save an ill Saurian.
- Saurian Treasure Seeker: A mini-game where players help baby Saurians collect treasures.
- Reward: Free 4-Star character Ororon for participating.
New Challenges & System Updates
- Lava Dragon Statue Boss: A new boss located in geothermal fissures within the volcano.
- Artifact Optimization: Using Sanctifying Elixirs to level Artifats now guarantees at least two upgrades to selected Minor Affixes.
Genshin Impact, and other Hoyoverse titles, remain some of the most polished gacha games on the market. While they’re obviously designed for mobile first, they all have solid PC clients. While I personally havent played much Genshin Impact, I’ve sunk a lot of time into Honkai: Star Rail and have been enjoying it.
