Nexon has officially launched MapleStory Worlds, a creative sandbox platform set in the MapleStory universe, now available worldwide on PC and mobile. Originally soft-launched in early 2025, this free-to-play experience combines nostalgia with user-generated content, empowering players to design games, worlds, and economies using MapleStory’s iconic assets.
Nexon is attempting to compete with Roblox and Fortnite‘s user generated games, but with MapleStory assets.
What is MapleStory Worlds?
- Build Anything: Use drag-and-drop tools or Lua scripting to create games, items, or entire worlds from over 30 million MapleStory assets (characters, monsters, environments)
- Monetize Creations: Set custom revenue models for your worlds, selling items or access to other players
- Cross-Platform Play: Seamless experience between PC and mobile devices

Three standout examples showcase the platform’s versatility:
- Maple Duel (Card Game):
- Collect cards based on classic MapleStory jobs (Warrior, Magician, etc.)
- Build decks and compete in daily challenges
- Maple Slash (Action RPG):
- Fast-paced combat against waves of monsters and bosses
- Upgrade skills and runes for deeper progression
- Durango: The Lost Island (Survival RPG):
- Explore, craft, and tame “cuter” dinosaurs in a revamped version of Nexon’s discontinued MMO Durango: Wild Lands
MapleStory Worlds isn’t just a nostalgia trip. it’s a bold experiment in UGC (user-generated content), leveraging:
- MapleStory’s 20-year legacy: Familiar assets attract longtime fans
- Roblox-like flexibility: A safer, moderated space for creators to build and profit
- Cross-genre appeal: From card games to survival sims, there’s something for every playstyle
