NetEase and Marvel have teamed up once again to work on a new free-to-play team-based PvP shooter called Marvel Rivals.
“Marvel Rivals is a Super Hero team-based PVP shooter! Assemble an all-star Marvel squad, devise countless strategies by combining powers to form unique Team-Up skills and fight in destructible, ever-changing battlefields across the continually evolving Marvel Universe!”
It’s basically a Marvel-inspired version of Overwatch where two teams go head-to-head in multi-round matches using iconic Marvel heroes and villains, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Hulk, Loki, Magneto, Star-Lord, The Punisher, and Luna Snow, to name a few.
“Marvel Rivals offers limitless strategic possibilities and dynamic gameplay. Players will explore new worlds and challenges, where familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies,” reads the official press release. “Set within an expansive and ever-evolving Marvel Universe, this game invites players to form unparalleled teams of their favorite Super Heroes and Super Villains, engaging in intense 6v6 third-person battles.”
The upcoming game is being developed by a team of developers who previously worked on other high-profile games like Call of Duty and Battlefield. NetEase is also a key investor in Marvel Snap and a mobile MOBA game called Marvel Super War.
Closed alpha testing for Marvel Rivals is set to begin in May and sign-ups are now open on the official site.
