RIFT, the long-running fantasy MMORPG, is about to see its first significant update in over two years. Gamigo is preparing to roll out a fresh patch on June 24, marking the game’s most notable development since May 2022. This move comes as a surprise for fans who have grown accustomed to the game’s maintenance-mode status, with only minimal bug fixes since its last major update.
Originally launched in 2011 by Trion Worlds, RIFT was once a major contender in the MMO space, known for its dynamic world events and class flexibility. After Trion’s closure in 2018, Gamigo acquired the rights and has kept the game online, albeit with limited new content. The upcoming patch signals some renewed attention, though expectations for a full-scale revival remain cautious.
- Summerfest event returns for July, offering seasonal activities and rewards
- Introduction of the new Riftbound Ursin mount
- Four-hour minion missions are being re-activated
- A new store banner will be added
- Client improvements are included in the update
While these changes aren’t likely to bring RIFT back to its heyday, they do show that the game is still getting some attention from its current owners. For long-time players, it’s at least a sign of life in an MMO that has managed to outlast many of its peers, despite a reduced development team and minimal updates. Die-hard fans continue to hold out hope for more substantial support in the future.
