Sony is trying to expand in Korea.
According to MTN, the company is reportedly seeking partnerships with Korean game developers, particularly after the success of games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Black Desert Online, and the anticipated success of Throne and Liberty (although the jury is still out on that one).
Sony is said to be interested in Pearl Abyss, the developer of Crimson Desert, and discussions are underway regarding investment and partial exclusivity on content. Neowiz, Com2uS, and NCSoft are also being considered.
The move is seen as a response to Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In the past, the company has acquired Bungie and a few other smaller developers as part of this strategy. One announced partnership we already know is with Shift Up, the Korean studio developing Stellar Blade (Project Eve), which will be exclusive to the PS5.
