As I type this, Elder Scrolls Online is advertising its 2025 content pass, specifically promoting the items that unlock when you buy it – an emote pack, a mount, and a mudcrab pet. Now, I love me some mudcrabs, but I genuinely can’t fathom picking up the pass for the bonuses like that. Maybe it’s because of the types of MMORPGs I play, but I can’t think of an MMO whose expansion (etc.) I’ve picked up specifically because of the cosmetics.
That is to say, I’ve most definitely bought certain tiers of expansion because there was something included that I wanted, like currency at a discount and leveling boosters. But cosmetics? Honestly, nope – I seldom wear the stuff that comes with packs or seasons. Just because of how I got it, it just feels too common to me. Maybe I’m just a cosmetics snob?
Do extra cosmetics entice you to buy MMO content packs? And if not, what does? What bonus items entice you to upgrade an MMORPG expansion pack, content pack, season, or whatever your MMO of choice calls it?
