The Name Of The Next Guild Wars 2 DLC May Have Been Leaked Early Thanks To SteamDB

Published:

Good old SteamDB. Taking a journey through the site, some intrepid gamers stumbled upon what might be a reveal of the name of the next Guild Wars 2 expansion/DLC.

According to the site, and reported on via reddit, ArenaNet’s next DLC for the MMORPG will be called “Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure.” This would be the first time the company has used something other than 3 words to name their expansions. The SteamDB listing is actually for the “prepurchase rewards”, but it does have what could be the expansion’s full name in the description as well.

Secrets of the Obscure, if an accurate name, would mark the first expansion/major DLC from ArenaNet since the company announced that it was shifting its design philosophy towards making DLC smaller and releasing it more often, so honestly I’m a little surprised that the releases are seeing full expansion names like this… and there’s a part of me that thinks it COULD be a ploy since someone had to know this would show up on SteamDB prior to any official announcement.

USPTO Report (a site made for searching trademarks, patents, and copyrights but not actually affiliated with the USPTO itself) does pull up two recently filed applications for this title and some on reddit have speculated that the filing attorney is the same one that NCSoft usually uses, and the font in the text design is consistent with previous Guild Wars 2 filings.

We’ll have to wait and see, but do you think it’s legit and what do you think of the name?
