The Rumblings Are Finally Confirmed, Star Wars The Old Republic Will Now Be Developed By Broadsword

Published:

Twelve years after the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware is handing the game over to another developer. While previously reported on as a rumor that was only semi-confirmed by EA not denying it, news of this transition officially hit on Monday when one of the game’s developers tweeted that he would be leaving the studio and joining the company that will be the game’s new home, Broadsword.

Today, posts from both SWTOR Executive Producer Keith Kanneg and Bioware General Manager Gary McKay confirmed the MMORPG‘s move. McKay’s post describes Broadsword as “a boutique studio with expertise in managing online games”. It also states that “most of the current [SWTOR] team will be invited to accompany the game on its move”. Among those is Kanneg. That said, not all jobs will transfer over.

The post also promises that the planned features players have already heard about are still on their way – as are things the team isn’t ready to reveal yet. Basically, players shouldn’t expect too much to be different on their end. Something else that won’t change is the fact that EA publishes the game, so players probably shouldn’t have to worry too much about changes to billing.
