Titan Forge Games Offers Players A Closer Look At Smite’s Goddess Ix Chel

Published:

Smite Ix Chel

Often, when Titan Forge Games decides to add a new god to Smite’s ever-growing list, it’s because the players have been asking for it. The devs aren’t exactly sure why this particular goddess is so requested. Although, they suspect it has something to do with her popularity across multiple countries – to the point that institutions, brands, and locations are named after her.

The interesting thing about Ix Chel is that her origins seem to come from at least two goddesses, Ixik Kab and Chak Chel being blended together into one. One goddess is older and the other younger. One is associated with the moon and fertility. The other is associated with weaving and vengeance. The bringing of these two together eventually resulted in Ix Chel, a young goddess associated with the moon and weaving. She’s typically depicted weaving colorful clothing and symbols of the rainbow.

With this in mind, the MOBA‘s dev team brought Ix Chel into the game as “The Light Weaver”. She weaves together strands of colored light on the battleground – using both moonlight and rainbow light in her abilities, as well as white light. Interestingly, rainbows were bad omens in Maya Mythology. While Ix Chel’s kit does have a healing focus – it stems from moonlight. Her attacks, on the other hand, will be much more colorful. A full rundown of Ix Chel’s kit, as well as her design process, is available on the Smite site. As always, it’s a great read for those interested in what goes into developing a character.
