Wildcard Launches Steam Page With Closed Alpha Beginning March 14

Published:

Wildcard, an upcoming game that blends MOBA and collectible strategy elements, has officially launched its Steam page. Players can now wishlist the game and sign up for exclusive Closed Alpha playtest sessions, which begin on March 14, 2025, and run through June. No word behind the business model yet, but the Alpha test will definitely be free.

The game is developed by Playful Studios, the same company behind Creativerse and Lucky’s Tale.

What is Wildcard?

Wildcard combines the fast-paced action of MOBAs with the strategic depth of trading card games. Players control powerful Champions, build decks of dynamic Summons, and battle in high-energy arena matches. Key features include:

  • Champions and Summons: Choose a Champion and customize your deck with Summons, each offering unique abilities to influence the battlefield.
  • Arena-Based Combat: Engage in real-time battles, using skills, summoning allies, and making strategic decisions to outplay opponents.
  • Strategic Gameplay: A mix of skill-based combat and tactical deck-building ensures every match is dynamic and competitive.

How to Join the Closed Alpha

Players can sign up for the Closed Alpha to get early access to the game and earn exclusive in-game rewards. To do this just head to the Steam page and click request access.

The Closed Alpha will run weekly from March 14, with access granted in waves.

What to Expect During the Alpha

The Closed Alpha will introduce players to Wildcard’s core gameplay while providing feedback opportunities to shape the game’s development. As the Alpha progresses, new Champions, Summons, and gameplay features will be added, offering fresh challenges and strategies.

Upcoming Milestones

  • Introduction of new Champions and Summons.
  • Expanded playtest sessions leading up to Early Access.
  • Competitive community challenges and events.
  • Continued refinements based on player feedback.

Time will tell if Wildcard succeeds, but I have my doubts. The game’s aesthethic looks soulless and strangely DEI-like. The core concept, a deck building game with MOBA elements, seems unique though.
