Ramen VR is showing Zenith: Infinite Realms a whole lot of love since its release late last month, apparently at the cost of slowing down development on the main game, resulting in a flood of negative reviews on Steam, not just for the spinoff but for the entire Zenith Nexus collection on Steam.
For context, Zenith Nexus is made up of two games: the main buy-to-play VR MMORPG, Zenith: The Last City, and the new free-to-play session-based multiplayer spinoff, Zenith: Infinite Realms. With the recent launch of Infinite Realms, Ramen VR is hoping to draw more attention to The Last City and raise additional funds for its development through cosmetic sales. Unfortunately, it inevitably ended up drawing the wrong kind of attention as the studio gears up for the spinoff’s second season amid continued review-bombing on Steam.
Season 2: Frostrealm is scheduled to kick off sometime between March 28 and April 3 with the promise of a new biome, boss, gesture magic element, new cosmetics, and a fresh start for everyone. All character levels and skill trees will be reset once the new season begins, and all previously acquired gear will automatically be converted to a crafting reagent called Dust.
Meanwhile. The Last City hasn’t seen an update since October and appears to have temporarily been put in the backburner while Ramen VR focuses its efforts and resources on Infinite Realms. There’s also no word on the promised non-VR PC version promised during Zenith’s Kickstarter campaign, which isn’t helping Ramen VR’s case either.
Other indie studio’s looking to jump onto the spinoff bandwagon might want to reconsider their plans, given how the strategy has played out so far, not only for Ramen VR but also for other indie studios in the past.
